So here we are with a shiny new coalition government. I think this is where things are going to get really tough. It feels as though people were holding off action until the general election and now they realise there is no time left and they have to start taking the unavoidable painful measures.
I happened to be walking past a few pubs in Glasgow last night and they were like ghost venues populated only by staff. People are obviously tightening their belts and the money is not flowing in the bars.
The Dave/Nick partnership is going to have to come up with a brave new order of things. I don't think trying to get the masses to spend more to get the economy's wheels turning is the answer. So if consumerism is not the answer, I wonder what is?
