Cassettes rear their heads

Thanks Harry for your interesting comments. I would still argue that cassettes were bumped off a bit too soon. And here you can read about their modest come back.

Interesting. I wonder what's behind that. But they're talking about blank tapes, which are still to some extent useful, whereas the pre-recorded cassette is surely dead as a dodo. You buy a CD, you can record to cassette for (eg) the car, or rip digitally to mp3 for the computer or the iPod, but to go from cassette to any other format (even another cassette now that dual-caseette-deck machines are out of fashion) is no easy matter, and of course in the copying you're losing quality from the word go.
